What You Need to Start Your Website
There are two things you absolutely must have to build a website:

1) A domain name (yoursite.com or yoursite.net, etc.)

2) A web host

To register a domain name is simple. All you have to do is think of a catchy name for your business. If the name you want is already taken, then try typing it a few different ways.

Use the form below to search for available names now. If you find something you want, then register it.

When you register a domain name, you can register it anywhere from 1 year to 10 years. Think about how long you plan on being in business. Many people believe that registering a domain for multiple years helps them in their search engine ranking. It kind of makes sense. I mean, the major search engines probably want to list websites that are planning on being in business for a while. Not someone just trying to be in business.

Another thing to keep in mind is protecting your great name. There are a ton of people out there who will buy the .net, .org, .info, .tv version of your domain name. So if you buy StevesFineWatches.com, there are people who will buy StevesFineWatches.NET, .ORG, etc etc.

Why do they do this? Well they may try to steal your traffic and spin it to an affiliate program to make a little extra cash.

To avoid this you may want to register the other extensions too. This prevents people from trying to take advantage of all your hard work.

You may be asking yourself, "What do I do with the other domain extensions?". Well you can forward them to your main site, so if anyone types in the .net or .org version of your domain; then at least the will be re-directed to your homepage. Then you won't lose any potential visitors.

Some addition things you may want to consider is adding privacy to your domain. Did you know that you can lookup the owner of any domain? You can see their name, address, phone number and email address. If you want to shield your personal information, then consider adding privacy. Usually with 5 domains, any registrar will give you free privacy. That is a great deal by any means. : )

KEYWORDS WITH YOUR DOMAIN NAME:

I recommend that you consider registering a domain name with your main keywords in it too. This may help you in generating more traffic.

People search by keywords mostly. Not names.

Let's say your name is Kenny and you sell plasma tv's. Let's also say you are considering registering kennyselectronics.com. That is a great name and you could get lots of traffic. But maybe focusing your domain a little will help you even more. For example: kennysplasmatvs.com. Plasma tv's get a ton of traffic. Maybe you specialize in tvs. By changing your keyword in your domain you could have just increased your chances for getting targeted ad placement on the search engines.

Do you want to see how many people are searching for your keywords? Go here: https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Use this tool to see how many times a month, people are searching the keywords related to your business.

Picking the right keyword could greatly increase your chances for additional visitors each month by 10's of thousands of visitors.

A domain name is just one aspect needed to help your website get up to the top of the search engines. Making sure your website contains the major keywords too can help. Use the google keyword tool above to help you locate other keywords that might work for you.

If you want to see what domains are available for your business, I recommend www.uSAVEdomains.com. There is search box on their homepage. Just type in the name you want and see if it is available. If it isn't then just try another name until you find one.

They have thousands of employees and they are open 24 hours a day to help you. Plus they are located in the United States. I have about 100 domains with them and use all my domains to funnel traffic to my main website. Pretty creative huh?
